10 contestants were chosen. 4 moved forward. 2 were crowned champions. And it all happened at Searsucker Las Vegas!
Earlier this month, we hosted a seriously fun event – the Herradura Bartender Legends competition!
Around 25 bartenders from all over the Las Vegas Valley submitted their recipes for a twist on the Horseshoe Margarita. From those 25, experts from Herradura chose their 10 favorites and invited those mixologists to compete in a regional competition. The grand prize? A trip to Casa Herradura in Jalisco, Mexico to meet the makers themselves!
On October 10th, we welcomed the 10 contestants and all their closest friends and colleagues to compete in this one-of-a-kind contest. We saw everything from cocktails in coconuts, to flaming cinnamon sticks, to smoking mortars and pestles, and we stared in awe as these experts combined unique flavors and ingredients to create the ultimate cocktail.
And of course, there was plenty of inspired food from Chef Stephen La Sala. Street tacos like the Charred Puss with octopus, fennel, and onion; Pastor with marinated pork and tomatillo; Crispy Pig Ear with chili de arbol and cilantro, and our favorite: Mexican Street Corn Tamales with chipotle and lime. Mix those with a few homemade chicharrones and a One Hot Cucumber (Herradura Silver, agave, cucumber, lime, and firewater bitters), and we had ourselves a seriously delicious way to watch these competitors go for the win.
In round one, we saw plenty of unique takes on the Horseshoe Margarita. In round two, four bartenders were chosen to create Herradura twists on classic cocktails – French 75, Corpse Reviver, Penicillin, Manhattan, or the Old Fashioned, and they did not disappoint. After the judges deliberated for a few minutes, our two winners were chosen: Cesar Cardona from The Dorsey, and Dominick DeMartino from Bound!
We are so happy to have hosted this spectacular event, filled with tequila, tacos, dancing DJs, and much more. A special thanks goes out to our friends at Brown Forman, Herradura, SP Entertainment, and to all of the bartenders who entered!
