Chef Stephen LaSala hopped up to the plate in the Hopped Taco Throwdown.
Where were you at 8 PM on August 12th? If your answer was anything but “At the Hopped Taco Throwdown,” we’re sorry to tell you that you missed out on a whopper of a time!
12 chefs came in, 3 came out. Just kidding, they all walked out victorious, because they got to make a ton of crazy tacos! Our own Chef Stephen LaSala had a booth representing Searsucker, and he brought his unique charm and wit to the battlefield. His tacos were the “Hopped Up Pig Ears,” with crispy pig ears, cilantro, chili, and lime; and the ever so cleverly named “Charred Puss,” with charred octopus, orange, and fennel. Chef Stephen was dishing out the deliciousness all night long to the 1500 guests who attended the event for unlimited tacos and craft beer.
There was fierce competition to be had amongst the 12 chefs that attended, and our sister properties ran home with some of the trophies. Chef Geno Bernardo from Herringbone Las Vegas took the Taco Dulce trophy for his Taco Dolce, featuring pizelle, Philly cheesecake, and Oculto & strawberry granita, and Fix’s Chef Sterling served up the Beer Belly, with beer-braised pork belly, drunk pickles, and “magic” (powdered wagyu fat powder) to take home the trophy for Best Hopped Taco.
Among the taco craziness was a multitude of amazing breweries serving up sample sips of their favorite beers and ales, along with some infused waters and kombucha teas. And they all paired well with Chef Stephen’s expertly-crafted boozy tacos. That’s right, everyone had their beer and ate it too at this seriously fun event hosted at Zappos.
